UAE VAT Calculator: questions and answers

What is the VAT rate in the UAE?

The standard rate is 5% (Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017 on VAT). Some supplies are zero-rated, such as qualifying exports, and some are exempt, such as residential rent and certain financial services.

How do I remove VAT from a VAT-inclusive amount?

For a standard-rated supply, divide the gross amount by 1.05 to get the net amount; the VAT is the difference. For example, AED 1,050 including VAT is AED 1,000 net plus AED 50 VAT.

Does the calculator decide the VAT treatment for me?

It applies the treatment for the options you choose. Whether a supply is actually zero-rated or exempt depends on conditions in the VAT law, such as export evidence, so confirm the treatment for unusual supplies.
